Final Images

I wanted to distance myself from the typical imagery of a cemetery and focus on the contrasting emotions and experiences that surround a cemetery.
Using shadow and small amounts of light, I distorted the way the space is perceived to show a darker eerie place. My selected photographs communicate a sense of darkness, emptiness, loneliness and neglect, a place where people and memories have been forgotten over time. The love that was once evident is now surrounded by darkness and shadows

There is one image in particular that has stood out for me.

Artist Inspiration

Most of my inspiration for this project has been self driven with a few influences that have helped me sharpen my final image series.

The biggest was Eugene Atget, with his use of photography documenting what the streets of what Paris looked like when no one else was really doing this style of photography.

I like this simplistic approach to his images, and i have especially like the ones he has that contain no people.

Here are a few that stand out

With this set of images, I'm looking at creating a flow through the park, as if you are going from the depths of the cemetary that has minimal light and emerging where the light reaches.

Photo Set Idea

Photo Set Idea - Second Shoot Photo
So here I'm looking at the movie The Nightmare Before Christmas, this is set in a dark eerie feeling cemetery, the video on the right of the blog is where the inspiration for this arose.

First Edited Image

This is from my second shoot.
With my set of images I want to create a feeling of light vs dark, looking at the way the space changes as you move through it, looking at how shadows affect the perception of the space.
This image has been edited slightly to give it more of a dark moody feel.

I tried to focus this image around the cross headstone and the tree stump and how that affects the idea of what a grave should look like.

Panorama

This is my panorama, it is the view from the Wadestown hill looking over Wellington City and the Stadium.
This set of images was taken at about 7:40pm, with my camera on manual mode.
I found that some on the images needed to be edited so I have adjusted the contrast and exposure on a few of the images used to give a better overall image.
